1. യോശുവയുടെ മരണശേഷം യിസ്രായേൽമക്കൾ: ഞങ്ങളിൽ ആരാകുന്നു കനാന്യരോടു യുദ്ധംചെയ്‍വാൻ ആദ്യം പുറപ്പെടേണ്ടതു എന്നു യഹോവയോടു ചോദിച്ചു.

1. Yoshuvayude Maranashesham Yisraayelmakkal: Njangalil Aaraakunnu Kanaanyarodu Yuddhamchey‍vaan Aadhyam Purappedendathu Ennu Yahovayodu Chodhichu.

1. After the death of Joshua, the Israelites asked the LORD, "Who will be the first to go up and fight for us against the Canaanites?"

2. യെഹൂദാ പുറപ്പെടട്ടെ; ഞാൻ ദേശം അവന്റെ കയ്യിൽ ഏല്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു യഹോവ കല്പിച്ചു.

2. Yehoodhaa Purappedatte; Njaan Dhesham Avante Kayyil Elpichirikkunnu Ennu Yahova Kalpichu.

2. The LORD answered, "Judah is to go; I have given the land into their hands."

3. യെഹൂദാ തന്റെ സഹോദരനായ ശിമെയോനോടു: എന്റെ അവകാശദേശത്തു കനാന്യരോടു യുദ്ധംചെയ്‍വാൻ നീ എന്നോടുകൂടെ പോരേണം; നിന്റെ അവകാശദേശത്തു നിന്നോടുകൂടെ ഞാനും വരാം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു ശിമെയോൻ അവനോടുകൂടെ പോയി.

3. Yehoodhaa Thante Sahodharanaaya Shimeyonodu: Ente Avakaashadheshaththu Kanaanyarodu Yuddhamchey‍vaan Nee Ennodukoode Porenam; Ninte Avakaashadheshaththu Ninnodukoode Njaanum Varaam Ennu Paranju Shimeyon Avanodukoode Poyi.

3. Then the men of Judah said to the Simeonites their brothers, "Come up with us into the territory allotted to us, to fight against the Canaanites. We in turn will go with you into yours." So the Simeonites went with them.

4. അങ്ങനെ യെഹൂദാ പുറപ്പെട്ടു; യഹോവ കനാന്യരെയും പെരിസ്യരെയും അവരുടെ കയ്യിൽ ഏല്പിച്ചു; അവർ ബേസെക്കിൽവെച്ചു അവരിൽ പതിനായിരംപോരെ സംഹരിച്ചു.

4. Angane Yehoodhaa Purappettu; Yahova Kanaanyareyum Perisyareyum Avarude Kayyil Elpichu; Avar Besekkilvechu Avaril Pathinaayirampore Samharichu.

4. When Judah attacked, the LORD gave the Canaanites and Perizzites into their hands and they struck down ten thousand men at Bezek.

5. ബേസെക്കിൽവെച്ചു അവർ അദോനി-ബേസെക്കിനെ കണ്ടു, അവനോടു യുദ്ധംചെയ്തു കനാന്യരെയും പെരിസ്യരെയും സംഹരിച്ചു.

5. Besekkilvechu Avar Adhoni-besekkine Kandu, Avanodu Yuddhamcheythu Kanaanyareyum Perisyareyum Samharichu.

5. It was there that they found Adoni-Bezek and fought against him, putting to rout the Canaanites and Perizzites.

6. എന്നാൽ അദോനീ-ബേസെൿ ഔടിപ്പോയി; അവർ അവനെ പിന്തുടർന്നു പിടിച്ചു അവന്റെ കൈകാലുകളുടെ പെരുവിരൽ മുറിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞു.

6. Adoni-Bezek fled, but they chased him and caught him, and cut off his thumbs and big toes.

7. Kaikaalukalude Peruviral Murichu Ezhupathu Raajaakkanmaar Ente Meshayin Keezhilninnu Perukkiththinnirunnu; Njaan Cheythathupole Thanne Dhaivam Enikku Pakaram Cheythirikkunnu Ennu Adhonee--besek Paranju. Avar Avane Yerooshalemilekku Kondupoyi Avidevechu Avan Marichu.

7. Then Adoni-Bezek said, "Seventy kings with their thumbs and big toes cut off have picked up scraps under my table. Now God has paid me back for what I did to them." They brought him to Jerusalem, and he died there.

8. യെഹൂദാമക്കൾ യെരൂശലേമിന്റെ നേരെ യുദ്ധംചെയ്തു അതിനെ പിടിച്ചു വാളിന്റെ വായ്ത്തലയാൽ വെട്ടി നഗരം തീയിട്ടു ചുട്ടുകളഞ്ഞു.

8. Yehoodhaamakkal Yerooshaleminte Nere Yuddhamcheythu Athine Pidichu Vaalinte Vaayththalayaal Vetti Nagaram Theeyittu Chuttukalanju.

8. The men of Judah attacked Jerusalem also and took it. They put the city to the sword and set it on fire.

9. അതിന്റെ ശേഷം യെഹൂദാമക്കൾ മലനാട്ടിലും തെക്കെ ദേശത്തിലും താഴ്വീതിയിലും പാർത്തിരുന്ന കനാന്യരോടു യുദ്ധം ചെയ്‍വാൻ പോയി.

9. Athinte Shesham Yehoodhaamakkal Malanaattilum Thekke Dheshaththilum Thaazhveethiyilum Paarththirunna Kanaanyarodu Yuddham Chey‍vaan Poyi.

9. After that, the men of Judah went down to fight against the Canaanites living in the hill country, the Negev and the western foothills.

10. യെഹൂദാ ഹെബ്രോനിൽ പാർത്തിരുന്ന കനാന്യരുടെ നേരെയും ചെന്നു; ഹെബ്രോന്നു പണ്ടു കിർയ്യത്ത്-അബ്ബാ എന്നു പേർ. അവർ ശേശായി, അഹിമാൻ , തൽമായി എന്നവരെ സംഹരിച്ചു.

10. Yehoodhaa Hebronil Paarththirunna Kanaanyarude Nereyum Chennu; Hebronnu Pandu Kiryyaththu-abbaa Ennu Per. Avar Sheshaayi, Ahimaan , Thalmaayi Ennavare Samharichu.

10. They advanced against the Canaanites living in Hebron (formerly called Kiriath Arba) and defeated Sheshai, Ahiman and Talmai.

11. അവിടെ നിന്നു അവർ ദെബീർ നിവാസികളുടെ നേരെ ചെന്നു; ദെബീരിന്നു പണ്ടു കിർയ്യത്ത്--സേഫെർ എന്നു പേർ.

11. Avide Ninnu Avar Dhebeer Nivaasikalude Nere Chennu; Dhebeerinnu Pandu Kiryyaththu--sepher Ennu Per.

11. From there they advanced against the people living in Debir (formerly called Kiriath Sepher).

12. അപ്പോൾ കാലേബ്: കിർയ്യത്ത്--സേഫെർ ജയിച്ചടക്കുന്നവന്നു ഞാൻ എന്റെ മകൾ അക്സയെ ഭാര്യയായി കൊടുക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

12. Appol Kaaleb: Kiryyaththu--sepher Jayichadakkunnavannu Njaan Ente Makal Aksaye Bhaaryayaayi Kodukkum Ennu Paranju.

12. And Caleb said, "I will give my daughter Acsah in marriage to the man who attacks and captures Kiriath Sepher."

13. കാലേബിന്റെ അനുജനായ കെനസിന്റെ മകൻ ഒത്നീയേൽ അതു പിടിച്ചു; അവൻ തന്റെ മകൾ അക്സയെ അവന്നു ഭാര്യയായി കൊടുത്തു.

13. Kaalebinte Anujanaaya Kenasinte Makan Othneeyel Athu Pidichu; Avan Thante Makal Aksaye Avannu Bhaaryayaayi Koduththu.

13. Othniel son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother, took it; so Caleb gave his daughter Acsah to him in marriage.

14. One day when she came to Othniel, she urged him to ask her father for a field. When she got off her donkey, Caleb asked her, "What can I do for you?"

15. Aval Avanodu Oru Anugraham Enikku Tharename; Nee Enne Thekkan Naattilekkallo Koduththathu; Neeruravukalum Enikku Tharename Ennu Paranju; Kaalebu Avalkku Malayilum Thaazhvarayilum Neeruravukal Koduththu.

15. She replied, "Do me a special favor. Since you have given me land in the Negev, give me also springs of water." Then Caleb gave her the upper and lower springs.

16. മോശെയുടെ അളിയനായ കേന്യന്റെ മക്കൾ യെഹൂദാമക്കളോടുകൂടെ ഈന്തപ്പട്ടണത്തിൽനിന്നു അരാദിന്നു തെക്കുള്ള യെഹൂദാ മരുഭൂമിയിലേക്കു പോയി; അവർ ചെന്നു ജനത്തോടുകൂടെ പാർത്തു.

16. Mosheyude Aliyanaaya Kenyante Makkal Yehoodhaamakkalodukoode Eenthappattanaththilninnu Araadhinnu Thekkulla Yehoodhaa Marubhoomiyilekku Poyi; Avar Chennu Janaththodukoode Paarththu.

16. The descendants of Moses' father-in-law, the Kenite, went up from the City of Palms with the men of Judah to live among the people of the Desert of Judah in the Negev near Arad.

17. പിന്നെ യെഹൂദാ തന്റെ സഹോദരനായ ശിമെയോനോടു കൂടെ പോയി, അവർ സെഫാത്തിൽ പാർത്തിരുന്ന കനാന്യരെ വെട്ടി അതിനെ നിർമ്മൂലമാക്കി; ആ പട്ടണത്തിന്നു ഹോർമ്മ എന്നു പേർ ഇട്ടു.

17. Pinne Yehoodhaa Thante Sahodharanaaya Shimeyonodu Koode Poyi, Avar Sephaaththil Paarththirunna Kanaanyare Vetti Athine Nirmmoolamaakki; Aa Pattanaththinnu Hormma Ennu Per Ittu.

17. Then the men of Judah went with the Simeonites their brothers and attacked the Canaanites living in Zephath, and they totally destroyed the city. Therefore it was called Hormah.

18. യെഹൂദാ ഗസ്സയും അതിന്റെ അതിർനാടും അസ്കലോനും അതിന്റെ അതിർനാടും എക്രോനും അതിന്റെ അതിർനാടും പിടിച്ചു.

18. Yehoodhaa Gassayum Athinte Athirnaadum Askalonum Athinte Athirnaadum Ekronum Athinte Athirnaadum Pidichu.

18. The men of Judah also took Gaza, Ashkelon and Ekron-each city with its territory.

19. യഹോവ യെഹൂദയോടുകൂടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അവൻ മലനാടു കൈവശമാക്കി; എന്നാൽ താഴ്വരയിലെ നിവാസികൾക്കു ഇരിമ്പുരഥങ്ങൾ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ടു അവരെ നീക്കിക്കളവാൻ കഴിഞ്ഞില്ല.

19. Yahova Yehoodhayodukoode Undaayirunnu; Avan Malanaadu Kaivashamaakki; Ennaal Thaazhvarayile Nivaasikalkku Irimpurathangal Undaayirunnathukondu Avare Neekkikkalavaan Kazhinjilla.

19. The LORD was with the men of Judah. They took possession of the hill country, but they were unable to drive the people from the plains, because they had iron chariots.

20. മോശെ കല്പിച്ചതുപോലെ അവർ കാലേബിന്നു ഹെബ്രോൻ കൊടുത്തു; അവൻ അവിടെനിന്നു അനാക്കിന്റെ മൂന്നു പുത്രന്മാരെയും നീക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞു.

20. Moshe Kalpichathupole Avar Kaalebinnu Hebron Koduththu; Avan Avideninnu Anaakkinte Moonnu Puthranmaareyum Neekkikkalanju.

20. As Moses had promised, Hebron was given to Caleb, who drove from it the three sons of Anak.

21. ബെന്യാമീൻ മക്കൾ യെരൂശലേമിൽ പാർത്തിരുന്ന യെബൂസ്യരെ നീക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞില്ല; യെബൂസ്യർ ഇന്നുവരെ ബെന്യാമീൻ മക്കളോടു കൂടെ യെരൂശലേമിൽ പാർത്തുവരുന്നു.

21. Benyaameen Makkal Yerooshalemil Paarththirunna Yeboosyare Neekkikkalanjilla; Yeboosyar Innuvare Benyaameen Makkalodu Koode Yerooshalemil Paarththuvarunnu.

21. The Benjamites, however, failed to dislodge the Jebusites, who were living in Jerusalem; to this day the Jebusites live there with the Benjamites.

22. യോസേഫിന്റെ ഗൃഹം ബേഥേലിലേക്കു കയറിച്ചെന്നു; യഹോവ അവരോടുകൂടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

22. Yosephinte Gruham Bethelilekku Kayarichennu; Yahova Avarodukoode Undaayirunnu.

22. Now the house of Joseph attacked Bethel, and the LORD was with them.

23. യോസേഫിന്റെ ഗൃഹം ബേഥേൽ ഒറ്റുനോക്കുവാൻ ആളയച്ചു; ആ പട്ടണത്തിന്നു മുമ്പെ ലൂസ് എന്നു പേരായിരുന്നു.

23. Yosephinte Gruham Bethel Ottunokkuvaan Aalayachu; Aa Pattanaththinnu Mumpe Loosu Ennu Peraayirunnu.

23. When they sent men to spy out Bethel (formerly called Luz),

24. പട്ടണത്തിൽനിന്നു ഇറങ്ങിവരുന്ന ഒരുത്തനെ ഒറ്റുകാർ കണ്ടു അവനോടു: പട്ടണത്തിൽ കടപ്പാൻ ഒരു വഴി കാണിച്ചു തരേണം; എന്നാൽ ഞങ്ങൾ നിന്നോടു ദയചെയ്യും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

24. Pattanaththilninnu Irangivarunna Oruththane Ottukaar Kandu Avanodu: Pattanaththil Kadappaan Oru Vazhi Kaanichu Tharenam; Ennaal Njangal Ninnodu Dhayacheyyum Ennu Paranju.

24. the spies saw a man coming out of the city and they said to him, "Show us how to get into the city and we will see that you are treated well."

25. അവൻ പട്ടണത്തിൽ കടപ്പാനുള്ള വഴി അവർക്കും കാണിച്ചുകൊടുത്തു; അവർ പട്ടണത്തെ വാളിന്റെ വായ്ത്തലയാൽ വെട്ടിക്കളഞ്ഞു, ആ മനുഷ്യനെയും അവന്റെ സകലകുടുംബത്തെയും വിട്ടയച്ചു;

25. Avan Pattanaththil Kadappaanulla Vazhi Avarkkum Kaanichukoduththu; Avar Pattanaththe Vaalinte Vaayththalayaal Vettikkalanju, Aa Manushyaneyum Avante Sakalakudumbaththeyum Vittayachu;

25. So he showed them, and they put the city to the sword but spared the man and his whole family.

26. അവൻ ഹിത്യരുടെ ദേശത്തു ചെന്നു ഒരു പട്ടണം പണിതു അതിന്നു ലൂസ് എന്നു പേരിട്ടു; അതിന്നു ഇന്നുവരെ അതു തന്നേ പേർ.

26. Avan Hithyarude Dheshaththu Chennu Oru Pattanam Panithu Athinnu Loosu Ennu Perittu; Athinnu Innuvare Athu Thanne Per.

26. He then went to the land of the Hittites, where he built a city and called it Luz, which is its name to this day.

27. മനശ്ശെ ബേത്ത്--ശെയാനിലും അതിന്റെ ഗ്രാമങ്ങളിലും താനാക്കിലും അതിന്റെ ഗ്രാമങ്ങളിലും ദോരിലും അതിന്റെ ഗ്രാമങ്ങളിലും യിബ്ളെയാമിലും അതിന്റെ ഗ്രാമങ്ങളിലും മെഗിദ്ദോവിലും അതിന്റെ ഗ്രാമങ്ങളിലും പാർത്തിരുന്നവരെ നീക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞില്ല. കനാന്യർക്കും ആ ദേശത്തു തന്നേ പാർപ്പാനുള്ള താല്പര്യം സാധിച്ചു.

27. Manashe Beththu--sheyaanilum Athinte Graamangalilum Thaanaakkilum Athinte Graamangalilum Dhorilum Athinte Graamangalilum Yibleyaamilum Athinte Graamangalilum Megiddhovilum Athinte Graamangalilum Paarththirunnavare Neekkikkalanjilla. Kanaanyarkkum Aa Dheshaththu Thanne Paarppaanulla Thaalparyam Saadhichu.

27. But Manasseh did not drive out the people of Beth Shan or Taanach or Dor or Ibleam or Megiddo and their surrounding settlements, for the Canaanites were determined to live in that land.

28. എന്നാൽ യിസ്രായേലിന്നു ബലം കൂടിയപ്പോൾ അവർ കന്യാന്യരെ മുഴുവനും നീക്കിക്കളയാതെ അവരെക്കൊണ്ടു ഊഴിയവേല ചെയ്യിച്ചു.

28. Ennaal Yisraayelinnu Balam Koodiyappol Avar Kanyaanyare Muzhuvanum Neekkikkalayaathe Avarekkondu Oozhiyavela Cheyyichu.

28. When Israel became strong, they pressed the Canaanites into forced labor but never drove them out completely.

29. എഫ്രയീം ഗേസെരിൽ പാർത്തിരുന്ന കനാന്യരെ നീക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞില്ല; കനാന്യർ ഗേസെരിൽ അവരുടെ ഇടയിൽ പാർത്തു.

29. Ephrayeem Geseril Paarththirunna Kanaanyare Neekkikkalanjilla; Kanaanyar Geseril Avarude Idayil Paarththu.

29. Nor did Ephraim drive out the Canaanites living in Gezer, but the Canaanites continued to live there among them.

30. സെബൂലൂൻ കിത്രോനിലും നഹലോലിലും പാർത്തിരുന്നവരെ നീക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞില്ല; കനാന്യർ ഊഴിയവേലക്കാരായിത്തീർന്നു അവരുടെ ഇടയിൽ പാർത്തു.

30. Sebooloon Kithronilum Nahalolilum Paarththirunnavare Neekkikkalanjilla; Kanaanyar Oozhiyavelakkaaraayiththeernnu Avarude Idayil Paarththu.

30. Neither did Zebulun drive out the Canaanites living in Kitron or Nahalol, who remained among them; but they did subject them to forced labor.

31. ആശേർ അക്കോവിലും സീദോനിലും അഹ്ളാബിലും അക്സീബിലും ഹെൽബയിലും അഫീക്കിലും രെഹോബിലും പാർത്തിരുന്നവരെ നീക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞില്ല.

31. Aasher Akkovilum Seedhonilum Ahlaabilum Akseebilum Helbayilum Apheekkilum Rehobilum Paarththirunnavare Neekkikkalanjilla.

31. Nor did Asher drive out those living in Acco or Sidon or Ahlab or Aczib or Helbah or Aphek or Rehob,

32. അവരെ നീക്കിക്കളയാതെ ആശേർയ്യർ ദേശനിവാസികളായ കനാന്യരുടെ ഇടയിൽ പാർത്തു.

32. Avare Neekkikkalayaathe Aasheryyar Dheshanivaasikalaaya Kanaanyarude Idayil Paarththu.

32. and because of this the people of Asher lived among the Canaanite inhabitants of the land.

33. നഫ്താലി ബേത്ത്--ശേമെശിലും ബേത്ത്--അനാത്തിലും പാർത്തിരുന്നവരെ നീക്കിക്കളയാതെ ദേശനിവാസികളായ കനാന്യരുടെ ഇടയിൽ പാർത്തു; എന്നാൽ ബേത്ത്--ശേമെശിലെയും ബേത്ത്--അനാത്തിലെയും നിവാസികൾ അവർക്കും ഊഴിയവേലക്കാരായിത്തിർന്നു.

33. Naphthaali Beththu--shemeshilum Beththu--anaaththilum Paarththirunnavare Neekkikkalayaathe Dheshanivaasikalaaya Kanaanyarude Idayil Paarththu; Ennaal Beththu--shemeshileyum Beththu--anaaththileyum Nivaasikal Avarkkum Oozhiyavelakkaaraayiththirnnu.

33. Neither did Naphtali drive out those living in Beth Shemesh or Beth Anath; but the Naphtalites too lived among the Canaanite inhabitants of the land, and those living in Beth Shemesh and Beth Anath became forced laborers for them.

34. അമോർയ്യർ ദാൻ മക്കളെ തിക്കിത്തള്ളി മലനാട്ടിൽ കയറ്റി; താഴ്വരയിലേക്കു ഇറങ്ങുവാൻ അവരെ സമ്മതിച്ചതുമില്ല.

34. Amoryyar Dhaan Makkale Thikkiththalli Malanaattil Kayatti; Thaazhvarayilekku Iranguvaan Avare Sammathichathumilla.

34. The Amorites confined the Danites to the hill country, not allowing them to come down into the plain.

35. അങ്ങനെ അമേർയ്യർക്കും ഹർഹേരെസിലും അയ്യാലോനിലും ശാൽബീമിലും പാർപ്പാനുള്ള താല്പര്യം സാധിച്ചു. എന്നാൽ യോസേഫിന്റെ ഗൃഹത്തിന്നു ബലംകൂടിയപ്പോൾ അവരെ ഊഴിയ വേലക്കാരാക്കിത്തീർത്തു.

35. Angane Ameryyarkkum Harheresilum Ayyaalonilum Shaalbeemilum Paarppaanulla Thaalparyam Saadhichu. Ennaal Yosephinte Gruhaththinnu Balamkoodiyappol Avare Oozhiya Velakkaaraakkiththeerththu.

35. And the Amorites were determined also to hold out in Mount Heres, Aijalon and Shaalbim, but when the power of the house of Joseph increased, they too were pressed into forced labor.

36. അമോർയ്യരുടെ അതിർ അക്രബ്ബിംകയറ്റവും സേലയും മുതൽ പിന്നെയും മേലോട്ടുണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

36. Amoryyarude Athir Akrabbimkayattavum Selayum Muthal Pinneyum Melottundaayirunnu.

36. The boundary of the Amorites was from Scorpion Pass to Sela and beyond.
