A metrical foot consisting of three syllables, the first two short, or unaccented, the last long, or accented (⌣ ⌣ -); the reverse of the dactyl. In Latin d&ebreve;- &ibreve;-tās, and in English in-ter-vene\'b6, are examples of anapests.
