1. അമിത്ഥായുടെ മകനായ യോനെക്കു യഹോവയുടെ അരുളപ്പാടു ഉണ്ടായതെന്തെന്നാൽ:

1. Amiththaayude Makanaaya Yonekku Yahovayude Arulappaadu Undaayathenthennaal:

1. The word of the LORD came to Jonah son of Amittai:

2. നീ പുറപ്പെട്ടു മഹാനഗരമായ നീനെവേയിലേക്കു ചെന്നു അതിന്നു വിരോധമായി പ്രസംഗിക്ക; അവരുടെ ദുഷ്ടത എന്റെ സന്നിധിയിൽ എത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നു.

2. Nee Purappettu Mahaanagaramaaya Neeneveyilekku Chennu Athinnu Virodhamaayi Prasamgikka; Avarude Dhushdatha Ente Sannidhiyil Eththiyirikkunnu.

2. "Go to the great city of Nineveh and preach against it, because its wickedness has come up before me."

3. എന്നാൽ യോനാ യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയിൽനിന്നു തർശീശിലേക്കു ഔടിപ്പോകേണ്ടതിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടു യാഫോവിലേക്കു ചെന്നു, തർശീശിലേക്കു പോകുന്ന ഒരു കപ്പൽ കണ്ടു കൂലി കൊടുത്തു യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയിൽനിന്നു അവരോടുകൂടെ തർശീശിലേക്കു പോയ്ക്കളവാൻ അതിൽ കയറി.

3. Ennaal Yonaa Yahovayude Sannidhiyilninnu Tharsheeshilekku Audippokendathinnu Purappettu Yaaphovilekku Chennu, Tharsheeshilekku Pokunna Oru Kappal Kandu Kooli Koduththu Yahovayude Sannidhiyilninnu Avarodukoode Tharsheeshilekku Poykkalavaan Athil Kayari.

3. But Jonah ran away from the LORD and headed for Tarshish. He went down to Joppa, where he found a ship bound for that port. After paying the fare, he went aboard and sailed for Tarshish to flee from the LORD.

4. യഹോവയോ സമുദ്രത്തിൽ ഒരു പെരുങ്കാറ്റു അടിപ്പിച്ചു; കപ്പൽ തകർന്നു പോകുവാൻ തക്കവണ്ണം സമുദ്രത്തിൽ വലിയൊരു കോൾ ഉണ്ടായി.

4. Yahovayo Samudhraththil Oru Perunkaattu Adippichu; Kappal Thakarnnu Pokuvaan Thakkavannam Samudhraththil Valiyoru Kol Undaayi.

4. Then the LORD sent a great wind on the sea, and such a violent storm arose that the ship threatened to break up.

5. കപ്പൽക്കാർ ഭയപ്പെട്ടു ഔരോരുത്തൻ താന്താന്റെ ദേവനോടു നിലവിളിച്ചു; കപ്പലിന്നു ഭാരം കുറെക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു അവർ അതിലെ ചരകൂ സമുദ്രത്തിൽ എറിഞ്ഞുകളഞ്ഞു. യോനയോ കപ്പലിന്റെ അടിത്തട്ടിൽ ഇറങ്ങി കിടന്നു നല്ലവണ്ണം ഉറങ്ങുകയായിരുന്നു.

5. Kappalkkaar Bhayappettu Auroruththan Thaanthaante Dhevanodu Nilavilichu; Kappalinnu Bhaaram Kurekkendathinnu Avar Athile Charakoo Samudhraththil Erinjukalanju. Yonayo Kappalinte Adiththattil Irangi Kidannu Nallavannam Urangukayaayirunnu.

5. All the sailors were afraid and each cried out to his own god. And they threw the cargo into the sea to lighten the ship. But Jonah had gone below deck, where he lay down and fell into a deep sleep.

6. കപ്പൽപ്രമാണി അവന്റെ അടുക്കൽ വന്നു അവനോടു: നീ ഉറങ്ങുന്നതു എന്തു? എഴുന്നേറ്റു നിന്റെ ദൈവത്തെ വിളിച്ചപേക്ഷിക്ക; നാം നശിച്ചുപോകാതിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ദൈവം പക്ഷേ നമ്മെ കടാക്ഷിക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

6. Kappalpramaani Avante Adukkal Vannu Avanodu: Nee Urangunnathu Enthu? Ezhunnettu Ninte Dhaivaththe Vilichapekshikka; Naam Nashichupokaathirikkendathinnu Dhaivam Pakshe Namme Kadaakshikkum Ennu Paranju.

6. The captain went to him and said, "How can you sleep? Get up and call on your god! Maybe he will take notice of us, and we will not perish."

7. അനന്തരം അവർ: വരുവിൻ ; ആരുടെ നിമിത്തം ഈ അനർത്ഥം നമ്മുടെമേൽ വന്നിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നറിയേണ്ടതിന്നു നാം ചീട്ടിടുക എന്നു തമ്മിൽ തമ്മിൽ പറഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങനെ അവർ ചീട്ടിട്ടു; ചീട്ടു യോനെക്കു വീണു.

7. Anantharam Avar: Varuvin ; Aarude Nimiththam Ee Anarththam Nammudemel Vannirikkunnu Ennariyendathinnu Naam Cheettiduka Ennu Thammil Thammil Paranju. Angane Avar Cheettittu; Cheettu Yonekku Veenu.

7. Then the sailors said to each other, "Come, let us cast lots to find out who is responsible for this calamity." They cast lots and the lot fell on Jonah.

8. അവർ അവനോടു: ആരുടെനിമിത്തം ഈ അനർത്ഥം നമ്മുടെമേൽ വന്നു എന്നു നീ പറഞ്ഞുതരേണം; നിന്റെ തൊഴിൽ എന്തു? നീ എവിടെനിന്നു വരുന്നു? നിന്റെ നാടു ഏതു? നീ ഏതു ജാതിക്കാരൻ ? എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

8. Avar Avanodu: Aarudenimiththam Ee Anarththam Nammudemel Vannu Ennu Nee Paranjutharenam; Ninte Thozhil Enthu? Nee Evideninnu Varunnu? Ninte Naadu Ethu? Nee Ethu Jaathikkaaran ? Ennu Chodhichu.

8. So they asked him, "Tell us, who is responsible for making all this trouble for us? What do you do? Where do you come from? What is your country? From what people are you?"

9. അതിന്നു അവൻ അവരോടു: ഞാൻ ഒരു എബ്രായൻ , കടലും കരയും ഉണ്ടാക്കിയ സ്വർഗ്ഗീയദൈവമായ യഹോവയെ ഞാൻ ഭജിച്ചുവരുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

9. Athinnu Avan Avarodu: Njaan Oru Ebraayan , Kadalum Karayum Undaakkiya Svarggeeyadhaivamaaya Yahovaye Njaan Bhajichuvarunnu Ennu Paranju.

9. He answered, "I am a Hebrew and I worship the LORD, the God of heaven, who made the sea and the land."

10. ആ പുരുഷന്മാർ അത്യന്തം ഭയപ്പെട്ടു അവനോടു: നീ എന്തിന്നു അങ്ങനെ ചെയ്തു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അവൻ അവരോടു അറിയിച്ചിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ടു അവൻ യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയിൽനിന്നു ഔടിപ്പോകുന്നു എന്നു അവർ അറിഞ്ഞു.

10. Aa Purushanmaar Athyantham Bhayappettu Avanodu: Nee Enthinnu Angane Cheythu Ennu Paranju. Avan Avarodu Ariyichirunnathukondu Avan Yahovayude Sannidhiyilninnu Audippokunnu Ennu Avar Arinju.

10. This terrified them and they asked, "What have you done?" (They knew he was running away from the LORD, because he had already told them so.)

11. എന്നാൽ സമുദ്രം മേലക്കുമേൽ അധികം കോപിച്ചതുകൊണ്ടു അവർ അവനോടു: സമുദ്രം അടങ്ങുവാന്തക്കവണ്ണം ഞങ്ങൾ നിന്നോടു എന്തു ചെയ്യേണ്ടു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

11. Ennaal Samudhram Melakkumel Adhikam Kopichathukondu Avar Avanodu: Samudhram Adanguvaanthakkavannam Njangal Ninnodu Enthu Cheyyendu Ennu Chodhichu.

11. The sea was getting rougher and rougher. So they asked him, "What should we do to you to make the sea calm down for us?"

12. Avan Avarodu: Enne Eduththu Samudhraththil Ittukalavin ; Appol Samudhram Adangum; Ente Nimiththam Ee Valiya Kol Ningalkku Thattiyirikkunnu Ennu Njaan Ariyunnu Ennu Paranju.

12. "Pick me up and throw me into the sea," he replied, "and it will become calm. I know that it is my fault that this great storm has come upon you."

13. എന്നാൽ അവർ കരെക്കു അടുക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു മുറുകെ തണ്ടുവലിച്ചു; എങ്കിലും സമുദ്രം കോപിച്ചു കോൾ പെരുകി വന്നതുകൊണ്ടു അവർക്കും സാധിച്ചില്ല.

13. Ennaal Avar Karekku Adukkendathinnu Muruke Thanduvalichu; Enkilum Samudhram Kopichu Kol Peruki Vannathukondu Avarkkum Saadhichilla.

13. Instead, the men did their best to row back to land. But they could not, for the sea grew even wilder than before.

14. അവർ യഹോവയോടു നിലവിളിച്ചു: അയ്യോ യഹോവേ, ഈ മനുഷ്യന്റെ ജീവൻ നിമിത്തം ഞങ്ങൾ നശിച്ചുപോകരുതേ; നിർദ്ദോഷരക്തം ചൊരിയിച്ച കുറ്റം ഞങ്ങളുടെമേൽ വരുത്തരുതേ; യഹോവേ, നിനക്കു ഇഷ്ടമായതു പോലെ നീ ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു

14. Avar Yahovayodu Nilavilichu: Ayyo Yahove, Ee Manushyante Jeevan Nimiththam Njangal Nashichupokaruthe; Nirddhosharaktham Choriyicha Kuttam Njangaludemel Varuththaruthe; Yahove, Ninakku Ishdamaayathu Pole Nee Cheythirikkunnuvallo Ennu Paranju

14. Then they cried to the LORD, "O LORD, please do not let us die for taking this man's life. Do not hold us accountable for killing an innocent man, for you, O LORD, have done as you pleased."

15. പിന്നെ അവർ യോനയെ എടുത്തു സമുദ്രത്തിൽ ഇട്ടുകളകയും സമുദ്രത്തിന്റെ കോപം അടങ്ങുകയും ചെയ്തു.

15. Pinne Avar Yonaye Eduththu Samudhraththil Ittukalakayum Samudhraththinte Kopam Adangukayum Cheythu.

15. Then they took Jonah and threw him overboard, and the raging sea grew calm.

16. അപ്പോൾ അവർ യഹോവയെ അത്യന്തം ഭയപ്പെട്ടു യഹോവേക്കു യാഗം കഴിച്ചു നേർച്ചകളും നേർന്നു.

16. Appol Avar Yahovaye Athyantham Bhayappettu Yahovekku Yaagam Kazhichu Nerchakalum Nernnu.

16. At this the men greatly feared the LORD, and they offered a sacrifice to the LORD and made vows to him.

17. യോനയെ വിഴുങ്ങേണ്ടതിന്നു യഹോവ ഒരു മഹാമത്സ്യത്തെ കല്പിച്ചാക്കിയിരുന്നു. അങ്ങനെ യോനാ മൂന്നു രാവും മൂന്നു പകലും മത്സ്യത്തിന്റെ വയറ്റിൽ കിടന്നു.

17. Yonaye Vizhungendathinnu Yahova Oru Mahaamathsyaththe Kalpichaakkiyirunnu. Angane Yonaa Moonnu Raavum Moonnu Pakalum Mathsyaththinte Vayattil Kidannu.

17. But the LORD provided a great fish to swallow Jonah, and Jonah was inside the fish three days and three nights.
