1. Many have undertaken to draw up an account of the things that have been fulfilled among us,

3. Therefore, since I myself have carefully investigated everything from the beginning, it seemed good also to me to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus,

4. അതു ക്രമമായി എഴുതുന്നതു നന്നെന്നു ആദിമുതൽ സകലവും സൂക്ഷ്മമായി പരിശോധിച്ചിട്ടു എനിക്കും തോന്നിയിരിക്കുന്നു.

4. Athu Kramamaayi Ezhuthunnathu Nannennu Aadhimuthal Sakalavum Sookshmamaayi Parishodhichittu Enikkum Thonniyirikkunnu.

4. so that you may know the certainty of the things you have been taught.

5. In the time of Herod king of Judea there was a priest named Zechariah, who belonged to the priestly division of Abijah; his wife Elizabeth was also a descendant of Aaron.

6. ഇരുവരും ദൈവസന്നിധിയിൽ നീതിയുള്ളവരും കർത്താവിന്റെ സകല കല്പനകളിലും ന്യായങ്ങളിലും കുററമില്ലാത്തവരായി നടക്കുന്നവരും ആയിരുന്നു.

6. Iruvarum Dhaivasannidhiyil Neethiyullavarum Karththaavinte Sakala Kalpanakalilum Nyaayangalilum Kuraramillaaththavaraayi Nadakkunnavarum Aayirunnu.

6. Both of them were upright in the sight of God, observing all the Lord's commandments and regulations blamelessly.

7. എലീശബെത്ത് മച്ചിയാകകൊണ്ടു അവർക്കും സന്തതി ഇല്ലാഞ്ഞു; ഇരുവരും വയസ്സു ചെന്നവരും ആയിരുന്നു.

7. Eleeshabeththu Machiyaakakondu Avarkkum Santhathi Illaanju; Iruvarum Vayassu Chennavarum Aayirunnu.

7. But they had no children, because Elizabeth was barren; and they were both well along in years.

8. അവൻ ക്കുറിന്റെ ക്രമപ്രകാരം ദൈവസന്നിധിയിൽ പുരോഹിതനായി ശുശ്രൂഷ ചെയ്തുവരുമ്പോൾ:

8. Once when Zechariah's division was on duty and he was serving as priest before God,

9. he was chosen by lot, according to the custom of the priesthood, to go into the temple of the Lord and burn incense.

10. ധൂപം കാട്ടുന്ന നാഴികയിൽ ജനസമൂഹം ഒക്കെയും പുറത്തു പ്രാർത്ഥിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നു.

10. Dhoopam Kaattunna Naazhikayil Janasamooham Okkeyum Puraththu Praarththichukondirunnu.

10. And when the time for the burning of incense came, all the assembled worshipers were praying outside.

11. അപ്പോൾ കർത്താവിന്റെ ദൂതൻ ധൂപപീ� ത്തിന്റെ വലത്തു ഭാഗത്തു നിൽക്കുന്നവനായിട്ടു അവന്നു പ്രത്യക്ഷനായി.

11. Then an angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing at the right side of the altar of incense.

12. സെഖര്യാവു അവനെ കണ്ടു ഭ്രമിച്ചു ഭയപരവശനായി.

12. Sekharyaavu Avane Kandu Bhramichu Bhayaparavashanaayi.

12. When Zechariah saw him, he was startled and was gripped with fear.

13. ദൂതൻ അവനോടു പറഞ്ഞതു: സെഖര്യാവേ, ഭയപ്പെടേണ്ടാ; നിന്റെ പ്രാർത്ഥനെക്കു ഉത്തരമായി: നിന്റെ ഭാര്യ എലീശബെത്ത് നിനക്കു ഒരു മകനെ പ്രസവിക്കും; അവന്നു യോഹന്നാൻ എന്നു പേർ ഇടേണം.

13. Dhoothan Avanodu Paranjathu: Sekharyaave, Bhayappedendaa; Ninte Praarththanekku Uththaramaayi: Ninte Bhaarya Eleeshabeththu Ninakku Oru Makane Prasavikkum; Avannu Yohannaan Ennu Per Idenam.

13. But the angel said to him: "Do not be afraid, Zechariah; your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you are to give him the name John.

14. നിനക്കു സന്തോഷവും ഉല്ലാസവും ഉണ്ടാകും; അവന്റെ ജനനത്തിങ്കൽ പലരും സന്തോഷിക്കും.

14. Ninakku Santhoshavum Ullaasavum Undaakum; Avante Jananaththinkal Palarum Santhoshikkum.

14. He will be a joy and delight to you, and many will rejoice because of his birth,

15. അവൻ കർത്താവിന്റെ സന്നിധിയിൽ വലിയവൻ ആകും; വീഞ്ഞും മദ്യവും കുടിക്കയില്ല; അമ്മയുടെ ഗർഭത്തിൽവെച്ചു തന്നേ പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവുകൊണ്ടു നിറയും.

15. Avan Karththaavinte Sannidhiyil Valiyavan Aakum; Veenjum Madhyavum Kudikkayilla; Ammayude Garbhaththilvechu Thanne Parishuddhaathmaavukondu Nirayum.

15. for he will be great in the sight of the Lord. He is never to take wine or other fermented drink, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit even from birth.

16. അവൻ യിസ്രായേൽമക്കളിൽ പലരെയും അവരുടെ ദൈവമായ കർത്താവിങ്കലേക്കു തിരിച്ചുവരുത്തും.

16. Avan Yisraayelmakkalil Palareyum Avarude Dhaivamaaya Karththaavinkalekku Thirichuvaruththum.

16. Many of the people of Israel will he bring back to the Lord their God.

17. അവൻ അപ്പന്മാരുടെ ഹൃദയങ്ങളെ മക്കളിലേക്കും വഴങ്ങാത്തവരെ നീതിമാന്മാരുടെ ബോധത്തിലേക്കും തിരിച്ചുംകൊണ്ടു ഒരുക്കമുള്ളോരു ജനത്തെ കർത്താവിന്നുവേണ്ടി ഒരുക്കുവാൻ അവന്നു മുമ്പായി ഏലീയാവിന്റെ ആത്മാവോടും ശക്തിയോടും കൂടെ നടക്കും.

17. Avan Appanmaarude Hrudhayangale Makkalilekkum Vazhangaaththavare Neethimaanmaarude Bodhaththilekkum Thirichumkondu Orukkamulloru Janaththe Karththaavinnuvendi Orukkuvaan Avannu Mumpaayi Eleeyaavinte Aathmaavodum Shakthiyodum Koode Nadakkum.

17. And he will go on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous--to make ready a people prepared for the Lord."

18. സെഖര്യാവു ദൂതനോടു; ഇതു ഞാൻ എന്തൊന്നിനാൽ അറിയും? ഞാൻ വൃദ്ധനും എന്റെ ഭാര്യ വയസ്സുചെന്നവളുമല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

18. Sekharyaavu Dhoothanodu; Ithu Njaan Enthonninaal Ariyum? Njaan Vruddhanum Ente Bhaarya Vayassuchennavalumallo Ennu Paranju.

18. Zechariah asked the angel, "How can I be sure of this? I am an old man and my wife is well along in years."

19. ദൂതൻ അവനോടു: ഞാൻ ദൈവസന്നിധിയിൽ നിലക്കുന്ന ഗബ്രിയേൽ ആകുന്നു; നിന്നോടു സംസാരിപ്പാനും ഈ സദ്വർത്തമാനം നിന്നോടു അറിയിപ്പാനും എന്നെ അയച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

19. Dhoothan Avanodu: Njaan Dhaivasannidhiyil Nilakkunna Gabriyel Aakunnu; Ninnodu Samsaarippaanum Ee Sadhvarththamaanam Ninnodu Ariyippaanum Enne Ayachirikkunnu.

19. The angel answered, "I am Gabriel. I stand in the presence of God, and I have been sent to speak to you and to tell you this good news.

20. തക്കസമയത്തു നിവൃത്തിവരുവാനുള്ള എന്റെ ഈ വാക്കു വിശ്വസിക്കായ്കകൊണ്ടു അതു സംഭവിക്കുംവരെ നീ സംസാരിപ്പാൻ കഴിയാതെ മൌനമായിരിക്കും എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

20. Thakkasamayaththu Nivruththivaruvaanulla Ente Ee Vaakku Vishvasikkaaykakondu Athu Sambhavikkumvare Nee Samsaarippaan Kazhiyaathe Maunamaayirikkum Ennu Uththaram Paranju.

20. And now you will be silent and not able to speak until the day this happens, because you did not believe my words, which will come true at their proper time."

21. ജനം സെഖര്യാവിന്നായി കാത്തിരുന്നു, അവൻ മന്ദിരത്തിൽ താമസിച്ചതിനാൽ ആശ്ചര്യപെട്ടു.

21. Janam Sekharyaavinnaayi Kaaththirunnu, Avan Mandhiraththil Thaamasichathinaal Aashcharyapettu.

21. Meanwhile, the people were waiting for Zechariah and wondering why he stayed so long in the temple.

22. അവൻ പുറത്തു വന്നാറെ അവരോടു സംസാരിപ്പാൻ കഴിഞ്ഞില്ല; അതിനാൽ അവൻ മന്ദിരത്തിൽ ഒരു ദർശനം കണ്ടു എന്നു അവർ അറിഞ്ഞു; അവൻ അവർക്കും ആഗ്യം കാട്ടി ഊമനായി പാർത്തു.

22. Avan Puraththu Vannaare Avarodu Samsaarippaan Kazhinjilla; Athinaal Avan Mandhiraththil Oru Dharshanam Kandu Ennu Avar Arinju; Avan Avarkkum Aagyam Kaatti Oomanaayi Paarththu.

22. When he came out, he could not speak to them. They realized he had seen a vision in the temple, for he kept making signs to them but remained unable to speak.

23. അവന്റെ ശുശ്രൂഷാകാലം തികഞ്ഞശേഷം അവൻ വീട്ടിലേക്കു പോയി.

23. Avante Shushrooshaakaalam Thikanjashesham Avan Veettilekku Poyi.

23. When his time of service was completed, he returned home.

24. ആ നാളുകൾ കഴിഞ്ഞിട്ടു അവന്റെ ഭാര്യ എലീശബെത്ത് ഗർഭം ധരിച്ചു:

24. Aa Naalukal Kazhinjittu Avante Bhaarya Eleeshabeththu Garbham Dharichu:

24. After this his wife Elizabeth became pregnant and for five months remained in seclusion.

25. മനുഷ്യരുടെ ഇടയിൽ എനിക്കുണ്ടായിരുന്ന നിന്ദ നീക്കുവാൻ കർത്താവു എന്നെ കടാക്ഷിച്ച നാളിൽ ഇങ്ങനെ എനിക്കു ചെയ്തുതന്നിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു അഞ്ചു മാസം ഒളിച്ചു പാർത്തു.

25. Manushyarude Idayil Enikkundaayirunna Nindha Neekkuvaan Karththaavu Enne Kadaakshicha Naalil Ingane Enikku Cheythuthannirikkunnu Ennu Paranju Anchu Maasam Olichu Paarththu.

25. "The Lord has done this for me," she said. "In these days he has shown his favor and taken away my disgrace among the people."

26. ആറാം മാസത്തിൽ ദൈവം ഗബ്രീയേൽദൂതനെ നസറെത്ത് എന്ന ഗലീലപട്ടണത്തിൽ,

26. Aaraam Maasaththil Dhaivam Gabreeyeldhoothane Nasareththu Enna Galeelapattanaththil,

26. In the sixth month, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee,

27. ദാവീദ് ഗൃഹത്തിലുള്ള യോസേഫ് എന്നൊരു പുരുഷന്നു വിവാഹം നിശ്ചയിച്ചിരുന്ന കന്യകയുടെ അടുക്കൽ അയച്ചു; ആ കന്യകയുടെ പേർ മറിയ എന്നു ആയിരുന്നു.

27. Dhaaveedhu Gruhaththilulla Yosephu Ennoru Purushannu Vivaaham Nishchayichirunna Kanyakayude Adukkal Ayachu; Aa Kanyakayude Per Mariya Ennu Aayirunnu.

27. to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin's name was Mary.

28. ദൂതൻ അവളുടെ അടുക്കൽ അകത്തു ചെന്നു: കൃപലഭിച്ചവളേ, നിനക്കു വന്ദനം; കർത്താവു നിന്നോടുകൂടെ ഉണ്ടു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

28. Dhoothan Avalude Adukkal Akaththu Chennu: Krupalabhichavale, Ninakku Vandhanam; Karththaavu Ninnodukoode Undu Ennu Paranju.

28. The angel went to her and said, "Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you."

29. അവൾ ആ വാക്കു കേട്ടു ഭ്രമിച്ചു: ഇതു എന്തൊരു വന്ദനം എന്നു വിചാരിച്ചു.

29. Aval Aa Vaakku Kettu Bhramichu: Ithu Enthoru Vandhanam Ennu Vichaarichu.

29. Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be.

30. ദൂതൻ അവളോടു: മറിയയേ, ഭയപ്പെടേണ്ടാ; നിനക്കു ദൈവത്തിന്റെ കൃപ ലഭിച്ചു.

30. Dhoothan Avalodu: Mariyaye, Bhayappedendaa; Ninakku Dhaivaththinte Krupa Labhichu.

30. But the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God.

31. നീ ഗർഭം ധരിച്ചു ഒരു മകനെ പ്രസവിക്കും; അവന്നു യേശു എന്നു പേർ വിളിക്കേണം.

31. Nee Garbham Dharichu Oru Makane Prasavikkum; Avannu Yeshu Ennu Per Vilikkenam.

31. You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus.

32. അവൻ വലിയവൻ ആകും; അത്യുന്നതന്റെ പുത്രൻ എന്നു വിളിക്കപ്പെടും; കർത്താവായ ദൈവം അവന്റെ പിതാവായ ദാവീദിന്റെ സിംഹാസനം അവന്നു കൊടുക്കും

32. Avan Valiyavan Aakum; Athyunnathante Puthran Ennu Vilikkappedum; Karththaavaaya Dhaivam Avante Pithaavaaya Dhaaveedhinte Simhaasanam Avannu Kodukkum

32. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David,

33. അവൻ യാക്കോബ് ഗൃഹത്തിന്നു എന്നേക്കും രാജാവായിരിക്കും; അവന്റെ രാജ്യത്തിന്നു അവസാനം ഉണ്ടാകയില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

33. Avan Yaakkobu Gruhaththinnu Ennekkum Raajaavaayirikkum; Avante Raajyaththinnu Avasaanam Undaakayilla Ennu Paranju.

33. and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever; his kingdom will never end."

34. മറിയ ദൂതനോടു: ഞാൻ പുരുഷനെ അറിയായ്കയാൽ ഇതു എങ്ങനെ സംഭവിക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

34. Mariya Dhoothanodu: Njaan Purushane Ariyaaykayaal Ithu Engane Sambhavikkum Ennu Paranju.

34. "How will this be," Mary asked the angel, "since I am a virgin?"

35. The angel answered, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.

36. നിന്റെ ചാർച്ചക്കാരത്തി എലീശബെത്തും വാർദ്ധക്യത്തിൽ ഒരു മകനെ ഗർഭം ധരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; മച്ചി എന്നു പറഞ്ഞുവന്നവൾക്കു ഇതു ആറാം മാസം.

36. Ninte Chaarchakkaaraththi Eleeshabeththum Vaarddhakyaththil Oru Makane Garbham Dharichirikkunnu; Machi Ennu Paranjuvannavalkku Ithu Aaraam Maasam.

36. Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be barren is in her sixth month.

37. ദൈവത്തിന്നു ഒരു കാര്യവും അസാദ്ധ്യമല്ലല്ലോ എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

37. Dhaivaththinnu Oru Kaaryavum Asaaddhyamallallo Ennu Uththaram Paranju.

37. For nothing is impossible with God."

38. "I am the Lord's servant," Mary answered. "May it be to me as you have said." Then the angel left her.

39. ആ നാളുകളിൽ മറിയ എഴുന്നേറ്റു മല നാട്ടിൽ ഒരു യെഹൂദ്യപട്ടണത്തിൽ ബദ്ധപ്പെട്ടു ചെന്നു,

39. Aa Naalukalil Mariya Ezhunnettu Mala Naattil Oru Yehoodhyapattanaththil Baddhappettu Chennu,

39. At that time Mary got ready and hurried to a town in the hill country of Judea,

40. സെഖര്യാവിന്റെ വീട്ടിൽ എത്തി എലീശബെത്തിനെ വന്ദിച്ചു.

40. Sekharyaavinte Veettil Eththi Eleeshabeththine Vandhichu.

40. where she entered Zechariah's home and greeted Elizabeth.

41. മറിയയുടെ വന്ദനം എലീശബെത്ത് കേട്ടപ്പോൾ പിള്ള അവളുടെ ഗർഭത്തിൽ തുള്ളി; എലീശബെത്ത് പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവു നിറഞ്ഞവളായി,

41. Mariyayude Vandhanam Eleeshabeththu Kettappol Pilla Avalude Garbhaththil Thulli; Eleeshabeththu Parishuddhaathmaavu Niranjavalaayi,

41. When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.

42. ഉച്ചത്തിൽ വിളിച്ചു പറഞ്ഞതു: സ്ത്രീകളിൽ നീ അനുഗ്രഹിക്കപ്പെട്ടവൾ; നിന്റെ ഗർഭ ഫലവും അനുഗ്രഹിക്കപ്പെട്ടതു:

42. Uchaththil Vilichu Paranjathu: Sthreekalil Nee Anugrahikkappettaval; Ninte Garbha Phalavum Anugrahikkappettathu:

42. In a loud voice she exclaimed: "Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear!

43. എന്റെ കർത്താവിന്റെ മാതാവു എന്റെ അടുക്കൽ വരുന്ന മാനം എനിക്കു എവിടെ നിന്നു ഉണ്ടായി.

43. Ente Karththaavinte Maathaavu Ente Adukkal Varunna Maanam Enikku Evide Ninnu Undaayi.

43. But why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?

44. നിന്റെ വന്ദനസ്വരം എന്റെ ചെവിയിൽ വീണപ്പോൾ പിള്ള എന്റെ ഗർഭത്തിൽ ആനന്ദം കൊണ്ടു തുള്ളി.

44. Ninte Vandhanasvaram Ente Cheviyil Veenappol Pilla Ente Garbhaththil Aanandham Kondu Thulli.

44. As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy.

45. കർത്താവു തന്നോടു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തതിന്നു നിവൃത്തിയുണ്ടാകും എന്നു വിശ്വസിച്ചവൾ ഭാഗ്യവതി.

45. Karththaavu Thannodu Arulicheythathinnu Nivruththiyundaakum Ennu Vishvasichaval Bhaagyavathi.

45. Blessed is she who has believed that what the Lord has said to her will be accomplished!"

46. അപ്പോൾ മറിയ പറഞ്ഞതു: “എന്റെ ഉള്ളം കർത്താവിനെ മഹിമപ്പെടുത്തുന്നു;

46. Appol Mariya Paranjathu: “ente Ullam Karththaavine Mahimappeduththunnu;

46. And Mary said: "My soul glorifies the Lord

52. He has brought down rulers from their thrones but has lifted up the humble.

53. വിശന്നിരിക്കുന്നവരെ നന്മകളാൽ നിറെച്ചു, സമ്പന്നന്മാരെ വെറുതെ അയച്ചു കളഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു.

53. He has filled the hungry with good things but has sent the rich away empty.

74. to rescue us from the hand of our enemies, and to enable us to serve him without fear

76. And you, my child, will be called a prophet of the Most High; for you will go on before the Lord to prepare the way for him,

77. നമ്മുടെ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ആർദ്രകരുണയാൽ അവന്റെ ജനത്തിന്നു പാപമോചനത്തിൽ രക്ഷാപരിജ്ഞാനം കൊടുപ്പാനുമായി നീ അവന്നു മുമ്പായി നടക്കും.

77. to give his people the knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of their sins,

78. because of the tender mercy of our God, by which the rising sun will come to us from heaven

79. ആ ആർദ്രകരുണയാൽ ഉയരത്തിൽനിന്നു ഉദയം നമ്മെ സന്ദർശിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.”

79. Aa Aardhrakarunayaal Uyaraththilninnu Udhayam Namme Sandharshichirikkunnu.”

79. to shine on those living in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the path of peace."

80. പൈതൽ വളർന്നു ആത്മാവിൽ ബലപ്പെട്ടു; അവൻ യിസ്രായേലിന്നു തന്നെത്താൻ കാണിക്കും നാൾവരെ മരുഭൂമിയിൽ ആയിരുന്നു.
