Malayalam is a Dravidian language spoken in the Indian state of Kerala and the union territories of Lakshadweep and Puducherry (Mahé district) by the Malayali people. It is one of 22 scheduled languages of India and is spoken by 2.88% of Indians. Malayalam has official language status in Kerala, Lakshadweep and Puducherry (Mahé) and is spoken by 34 million people worldwide. Malayalam is also spoken by linguistic minorities in the neighbouring states; with significant number of speakers in the Kodagu and Dakshina Kannada districts of Karnataka, and Nilgiris and Kanyakumari, districts of Tamil Nadu. To set on fire; to inflame; to kindle; to burn.

  1. To cause to be extremely angry; infuriate.
  2. An aromatic substance, such as wood or a gum, that is burned to produce a pleasant odor.
  3. The smoke or odor produced by the burning of such a substance.
  4. A pleasant smell.
  5. Flattering or fawning attention; homage.

Exodus 37:25
He made the Incense altar of acacia wood. Its length was a cubit and its width a cubit--it was square--and two cubits was its height. Its horns were of one piece with it.

Leviticus 4:7
And the priest shall put some of the blood on the horns of the altar of sweet Incense before the LORD, which is in the tabernacle of meeting; and he shall pour the remaining blood of the bull at the base of the altar of the burnt offering, which is at the door of the tabernacle of meeting.
പുരോഹിതൻ രക്തം കുറെ യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയിൽ സമാഗമന കൂടാരത്തിലുള്ള സുഗന്ധവർഗ്ഗത്തിൻ ധൂപപീഠത്തിന്റെ കൊമ്പുകളിൽ പുരട്ടേണം; കാളയുടെ ശേഷം രക്തം മുഴുവനും സമാഗമന കൂടാരത്തിന്റെ വാതിൽക്കൽ ഉള്ള ഹോമയാഗ പീഠത്തിന്റെ ചുവട്ടിൽ ഒഴിച്ചുകളയേണം.
1 Kings 13:1
And behold, a man of God went from Judah to Bethel by the word of the LORD, and Jeroboam stood by the altar to burn Incense.
യൊരോബെയാം ധൂപം കാട്ടുവാൻ പീഠത്തിന്നരികെ നിലക്കുമ്പോൾ തന്നേ ഒരു ദൈവപുരുഷൻ യഹോവയുടെ കല്പനയാൽ യെഹൂദയിൽ നിന്നു ബേഥേലിലേക്കു വന്നു.
Jeremiah 11:12
Then the cities of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem will go and cry out to the gods to whom they offer Incense, but they will not save them at all in the time of their trouble.
അപ്പോൾ യെഹൂദാപട്ടണങ്ങളും യെരൂശലേംനിവാസികളും ചെന്നു, തങ്ങൾ ധൂപം കാട്ടിവന്ന ദേവന്മാരോടു നിലവിളിക്കും; എങ്കിലും അവർ അവരെ അനർത്ഥകാലത്തു രക്ഷിക്കയില്ല.
2 Kings 18:4

Jeremiah 44:15

യിസ്രായേൽഗൃഹവും യെഹൂദാഗൃഹവും ബാലിന്നു ധൂപം കാട്ടി എന്നെ കോപിപ്പിച്ചതിൽ ദോഷം പ്രവർത്തിച്ചിരിക്കയാൽ നിന്നെ നട്ടിരിക്കുന്ന സൈന്യങ്ങളുടെ യഹോവ നിനക്കു അനർത്ഥം വിധിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

Exodus 30:8
And when Aaron lights the lamps at twilight, he shall burn Incense on it, a perpetual Incense before the LORD throughout your generations.
അഹരോൻ വൈകുന്നേരം ദീപം കൊളുത്തുമ്പോഴും അങ്ങനെ സുഗന്ധധൂപം കാട്ടേണം. അതു തലമുറതലമുറയായി യഹോവയുടെ മുമ്പാകെ നിരന്തരധൂപം ആയിരിക്കേണം.

Exodus 30:9
